Hand sketching

Unwind

Sketching hands is not easy as I first thought. When I first started with pencil sketching, one of my early attempts was to try and portray the ‘hand heart’ gesture. I then realized that sketching hands was not going to be a simple task. Later on, I attempted to draw a hand that resembled a ‘tree’ or ‘root’ growing from the ground, called “Caught in Time”. It was a twisted hybrid hand, so the positioning of the fingers was not as critical. I’ve now since been inspired, to try life like hands sketch. 🧠 Getting proportion is number one, you also need to consider the position of the hand and what the hand is doing. Hands are also asymmetrical, so if there is more than one hand in the sketch, you need to take into consideration the hand positioning and interaction with one another. In this sketch I choose to use two left hands holding each other palm to palm. When you imagine this positioning, and take into consideration body dynamics, you then can begin to see the possible positioning of the bodys behind the hands. 👆👁
